JUAN JOSE AGIRRE RECEIVES A TRIBUTE FROM THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL OF GIPUZKOA AND FROM BASQUE SOCIETY IN GENERAL

Juan José Agirre received a tribute from the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, and from Basque society in general, in an emotional ceremony held last Friday, 18 October, in the church of the Benedictines in Lazkao. Agirre was accompanied by institutional and cultural representatives, family members, friends and citizens in general.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Lazkao, Kepa Zubiarrain, the former Culture Counsellor of Culture and Education Policy of the Basque Government, Mari Karmen Garmendia, and the Deputy General of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza, who highlighted the importance of the work carried out by Agirre and his tireless work to preserve the memory of the last decades of the history of the Basque Country. The txistulari Garikoitz Mendizabal and the accordionist Aitor Furundarena also took part in the event, as well as several local cultural entities, such as the group of txistularis, the Kantaka choir, the Oin Arin dance group, and the bertsolaris Aizpea Garmendia and Felipe Altuna. The presenter of the event was Oihana Sarasola.

In addition to the recognition, the Council presented Aguirre with a sculpture made by Antxon Mendizabal "Mendi". Aguirre, moved, had words of gratitude for the Provincial Council, for those in attendance and for all those who have collaborated with him over the years.
